Course Contents

(コース説明からの抜粋)

Spoken Performance Workshops and Case Study Debates provide interactive conversational skills with news & current affairs focus using topical stimulus from a variety of media sources including newspaper, radio, magazine, television and online reports on matters of general interest and importance in aviation. Students will get the opportunity to present news & current affairs topics with follow up conversations. The school’s resources include authentic materials (newspapers, magazines, the internet, international news online digital television news) that compliment more traditional textbooks, CD ROMS and CDs.

Specific Grammar and Structure classes are focused to review and practice general English skills: key tenses and vocabulary with the emphasis on productive skills practice in each class.

Teachers employ a mix of classroom and language laboratory-based work using interactive Pronunciation CD-ROMs. Students will focus on making their speech intelligible and will also study and practice listening to features of international accents via live and recorded general English and pilot-air traffic controller exchanges during routine and non-routine situations. The aim is to improve active pronunciation production and improve passive knowledge of other nationalities’ pronunciation features.

Listening comprehension training is based on the functional skills detailed in the ICAO 9835 document. Students will work on their gist & detail listening with a focus on an air crash investigation case study, using television documentaries that include radio news broadcasts and pilot-air traffic controller interactions.

Whenever possible students will be mixed with other air traffic controller’s in-school to allow the students to have exposure to international English accents and hear different opinions from the different cultures involved in aviation. The school regularly hosts African, French, Polish, Hungarian and Spanish aviation professionals.

OISE Bristol does not teach aviation phraseology, but general English within an aviation context and in compliance with the ICAO levels.
